Directors
Julie Shaer
Director

Julie Shaer is a very proud co-owner of Sketchworks Comedy. A native of Boston, Massachusetts, Julie has had many years of performing on stage as a singer, dancer and actor.

Although all her work as a performer got put on hold by entering the corporate world. She became lifeless and dull- a lost soul if you will…the world of theatre was calling her back and in 2005 that is just what she did. Julie fused her love for comedy and theatre and took a class with Sketchworks Comedy. That did it. She was sold. Julie has been a performer, instructor and director which brought her to co-ownership of this sketch comedy ship with Brian Troxell in 2014.

Julie really and truly believes in and is passionate about her sketch comedy team as they are not only talented, professional and FUNNY, but a tight knit family. Join us, will you?

Kirsten worked as the assistant teacher in this years Sketchworks kids camps.

When she is not on stage, you can find her piddling around her house with her cat Dobby.
Maria Liatis

Maria first got involved with Sketchworks Comedy because her agents at People Store were heavily involved in the theatre (at the time, a couple of them were the owners and mainstage performers). She went to a performance to show her support, and fell in love. She immediately started taking classes, and even forced her acting coach to become her friend and roommate so that she could suck all the comedy knowledge out of her! Ok, the friendship was definitely two-sided.

Maria is an actress, coach, writer, and director in Atlanta, Georgia. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor's degree in Theater. She was an acting coach at The Actor's Scene for 7 years, and has coached with Sketchworks for 7 years. You can also catch her in some of their mainstage shows.

She started her career on stage and in front of the camera, but now is also focused on creating her own projects. She owns two production companies: Cart Reel Films, LLC, dedicated to creating original footage for actors to use in their demo reels; and Puppacorn Productions, LLC, for producing sketch comedy videos. Check her out on instagram @marialiatis, IMDB, Actor’s Access, Facebook, and MariaLiatis.com. Or, just come see her in a show, because isn’t that really what this is all about?!

Maria owns a pet ferret named Master Pot Roast and hates water chestnuts.
Crystal Lo

Crystal Lo is a Chinese-American actor based in Atlanta, Georgia. Growing up in Alabama, she was in desperate need of entertainment so she created characters. She was a fan of Sketchworks before she had the balls to join. Now they have become her second family!

In her spare time, she likes to create online content with friends, perform in live comedy shows, and talk about herself in the third person. Stay up to date with Crystal Lo: Linktree
Summer McCusker

Summer is an Atlanta actor, voiceover talent, and mediocre improviser. Some of her most recent work around town includes: Ed in Evil Dead the Musical (Out of Box Theatre) Ben/Lisa in Disaster, Little Sally in Urinetown, Ted in Peter and the Starcatcher, Little Red in Into the Woods, Charlie Bucket in Willy Wonka (Act 3); Peter in Peter Pan, JoJo in Seussical (Springer Opera House); Putzie in Vape the Musical (Sketchworks Comedy #FreeVape); Alexander in Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day (The Legacy Theatre).

Jillian Walzer

By day Jillian can be found working at Northside Hospital Cancer Institute, where she leads a team of outstanding healthcare professionals; however her creative side is a must! Jillian is the Director of Development for Merely Players Presents and as an Atlanta-based stage and screen actress, she more often than not finds herself on stage having performed in over 30 productions in the Southeast. Jillian’s love for comedy gets played out often including being a mainstage actor with Sketchworks Comedy, Atlanta's premier sketch comedy troupe where she performs regularly. Jillian is also known to direct and write where her scripts have quickly received recognition with works being produced on stage and screen. Jillian’s short film "Cowboy Joe" is currently hitting the festival circuit and “Hit or Miss” in which she writes, stars and produces, is in pre production. Jillian believes the sky is the limit and she is thrilled and patiently waiting at the door to get back up on stage with this talented group of women in “Heels Up,” coming to The Village Theater soon!

In the meantime, she’ll be at home consuming buttercream frosting and edible cookie dough to sustain.

Writers
John D. Babcock, III
Head Writer

John's comedy career started when he wrote and performed sketches in his backyard for neighbors. John joined Sketchworks Comedy in January 2017 as a cast member of LAUGHTER REHAB.

In addition to writing and performing for Sketchworks, John writes murder mystery plays for Agatha's - A Taste of Mystery, The Mystery Café of Indianapolis, and Laughing Matters.  He also contributed on-air scripts to Turner Classic Movies - having  written for the late Robert Osborne, and Ben Mankiewicz.  His play INDEPENDENT, about filmmaker John Cassavetes, received its world premiere at Essential Theatre's 2017 Summer Festival.

John is a loving and dedicated husband and father who drives a sensible car and has no pets.
Bill Szabrak

Bill has been making people around him laugh since he first avoided a fight in elementary school by making jokes.

His introduction to Sketchworks came when when a coworker and Sketchworks troupe member said, "You're funny. You should write comedy."

Apparently the 88th time you hear something, it finally sticks; and he quickly came up through the Sketchworks ranks, and has been a contributing member of the writing team since.
Prachi Singh

Prachi is from India and her association with Sketchworks officially began in March 2018 at a time when she was hopelessly scanning the Internet for a comedy group to write sketch comedy with. Little did she know that the answer to her prayers lay somewhere in Atlanta. And so began the romance with comedy!

With a degree in English Literature from St. Bede’s College, Shimla- a quaint hill town of north India- Prachi has always been passionate about creative arts as she got into writing poems, songs, abstracts and stories from an early age. She has been living in Mumbai since about ten years now, previously working as an AD on numerous Hindi films and now writing for Hindi films/ web series.
As for her loving and a very long distance relationship with the United States- in addition to being a writer for Sketchworks, she’s now also become a part of The Scene Shop as a contributing writer for their comedy podcasts, namely Bad Gladiator and Slapback.

Prachi’s love for comedy was triggered a few years ago by some very popular shows such as Impractical Jokers (and their sketches as The Tenderloins), Key and Peele, SNL, The Office and Big Train of BBC Two. And since then, there has been no turning back. Some may even call it ‘laugh at first sight’!
Prachi is an animal lover and literally falls in love with every dog she meets. She is terrified of lizards though.

Her writing can be aptly defined with the following quote from Michael Scott: "Sometimes I’ll start a sentence and I don’t even know where it’s going. I just hope I find it along the way."
Catie Hogan

Catie Hogan is an award-winning comedy writer, speaker, and author of two humorous personal finance books.

When she's not helping people with their money, she's writing jokes that do not make her grandmothers proud. Catie's been a writer with Sketchworks since 2016 and now resides outside of New York City where she's pursuing her dream of becoming an insufferable television talking head.
Rachel Garbus

Rachel Garbus is a writer, performer, and storytelling podcast-maker, formerly of Atlanta and now based in Brooklyn. While she misses her ATL Sketchworks crew, she considers herself the personal chaperone of the group when they tour in New York - until the drinks start flowing, she gets lost following a puppy, and then it's every Sketchworker for themself!

Big thanks to her fellow writers Catie and Sarah who trimmed the flab on her sketches AND helped keep her sane during a pandemic.
Sarah Franco

Sarah Franco is thrilled to make her Sketchworks debut as a contributing writer. A native New Yorker, Sarah is a self-proclaimed convert from "disgruntled pizza rat" to "cartoon jester who got sucked through a Space Jam black hole and landed in the real world". Sarah has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Musical Theater and Comedy Writing & Performance from Emerson College. Sarah is the showrunner and co-star of the upcoming web series Jade & Jaded, which you can follow on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and TikTok @JadeandJaded.

Sarah has also had her silly joke babies published by Sally Mag, Points in Case, and alongside fellow Sketchworks Collaborators Catie Hogan & Rachel Garbus on The Belladonna Comedy. See more about Sarah, including her performing work, at www.sarahfranconyc.com. IG: @SarahFrancoNYC
