Acting + Writing Combo Class

Coaches Sanna Erica and John D. Babcock III
CREATE AND PRODUCE AN ORIGINAL SKETCH COMEDY SHOW

Are you looking for an Intensive Sketch Comedy Writing AND Acting class? Looking to challenge yourself and stretch your comfort zone? Want to build a show from the ground up and bask in the warmth of the glowing stage lights while you savor the sound of roaring applause and the sight of a standing ovation from an adoring audience?

Wow. That’s specific. But yes, we’ve got the perfect class for you!

CLASS BREAKDOWN:
In this 10-week program, students will stretch their comedy acting and writing skills by working as an ensemble to produce an original sketch comedy show under the guidance of our head coaches.

Students will:
- Brainstorm themes
- Use acting and improv exercises to explore ideas
- Write original sketches and create original characters that fit the theme
- Learn how to accept and apply feedback to scripts and performance choices
- Rehearse and sharpen stage performance technique
- Perform a TWO-NIGHT RUN of your show!!

In this intertwined acting-writing process, students will gain hands-on experience in working with their scripts and seeing what works and what doesn’t, with the option of tweaking and re-writing when they see their pieces on their feet.

The Writers’ and Actors’ worlds unite! This is a great opportunity for writers to learn how acting exercises can help create original characters and sketch ideas, how actors break down their scripts and make their comedic choices, and how a script may change from conception to execution. Actors will gain experience in turning their ideas into a script, understanding the process from brainstorming on paper to creating an outline to writing a complete sketch, and embracing feedback from fellow creators to fine-tune their sketches.

So, whether you’re mostly a writer or mostly an actor, much knowledge is to be gained from each other. In this class, you’re both!
